When we talk about France, people are used to think about its famous gastronomy and its wines. Indeed, French’s reputation precedes them regarding their consumption of wine and it is not a myth ! Many French people are used to enjoy a glass of wine during their meal. It is a real pleasure for the palate, but it is also a good way to enhance your meal experience since the alliance between food and wines allow discovering new savours. And it is not the only positive point since red wines provide some health’s benefits such as preventing from brain’s diseases, treating gums’ infection, helping to reduce cholesterol, improving cardiovascular health. But the most important thing is that drinking wine is convivial. It is always a pleasure to open a good bottle of wine with some friends or family.

What is behind this convivial drink?

Well, it fast and easy to enjoy a glass of wine, but it takes time to make wine. It is a question of years, even decades to reach the excellence expected.

The winemaking process starts when the grapes are grown after months of waiting. The producer gives all his attention to his vines to check when the grapes are ready and to start grape-harvest. Teams are gathered to harvest ripped grapes. It happens that the grape-harvest takes place during the night in order to get fresher, fruiter & crisper grapes.

Once in the cellar, grapes are sorted out in order to keep the best ones to provide the best quality. They are then pressed, and the juice will follow the fermentation process. The clarification process allows obtaining a better quality by removing residue. The bottles will then be aging in the cellar.

This complex and long process of winemaking highlights products’ quality.

Craftsmanship holds a very important role in this process and reflects French savoir-faire. The attention paid to each of these steps, the craftsmanship and the know-how are a part of the secret of winemaking.

You should definitely go visiting wines’ Houses and discover their cellars and their winemaking process.  I hope you’ll share with me your best discoveries !

From winemaking to a convivial drink

Ruinart : An amazing brand

I believe that Champagne is an amazing product and I really appreciate its festive character. Champagne evokes events, parties and celebrations to me. Since French people usually open a bottle of Champagne to celebrate something, it constitutes moments of sharing and moments full of joy. It is a real synonym of happiness.

This bubbly and glamorous product is highly appreciated worldwide.

Today I would like to introduce you my favourite Champagne brand : Ruinart.

Champagne is an exclusive French product with its unique French savoir-faire. In effect, some people are often confused between Champagne and Sparkling Wine. The difference is very simple, it all depends on the origin of the products. There is a region called Champagne in France and only the products produced there are able to be called Champagne and to get the protected designation of origin. Anywhere else in the world the product will be called a Sparkling Wine.

What makes Ruinart that special?

Ruinart has a very interesting history since it is the first House to produce Champagne. In this way, Ruinart is the oldest House of Champagne.

It all started with the monk Dom Ruinart, he had the intuition that this “bubbly wine” would be a success, this is how his nephew, Nicolas Ruinart, decided to create the House. It is amazing to notice how visionary Dom Ruinart was. Nicolas Ruinart founded the House in 1729, he was a simple draper at that time. Today the House is famous worldwide, and is even part of the biggest luxury group : LVMH.

Besides this incredible history, Ruinart distinguishes itself thanks to the excellence it delivers.

Champagne use three different variety of vine : Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier.

Ruinart’s soul is built on Chardonnay grape-variety. The mastery of Chardonnay allows the brand to produce its iconic product : Ruinart Blanc de Blanc. It is 100% composed of Chardonnay and it is the outcome of the assembly of the juice of two different years in order to reach Ruinart’s quality and exception. Even though Ruinart Blanc de Blanc is the perfect alliance with seafood, it is also great for aperitif. Its golden and bright colour is very attractive.

If you ever have the chance to taste Champagne, or even Ruinart, I’ll be happy to read about your experience !
